TV Addict Confessions: September 4, 2005

Welcome to the first edition of this new column!

"TV Addict Confessions" will be a weekly column about the week's TV happenings. Each week I will write a review of one show that I think should be discussed, whether it is good or bad. Then at the end I will talk about other shows I watched this week in little small blurbs.

So now that premise of the column has been explained, let's get it started in here!

Prison Break: "Pilot" & "Allen"

The fall television season has begun! FOX's Prison Break is the first network show to premiere. "Prison" premiered to great numbers, 10.5 million viewers. It survived against Monday Night Football, but will it survive the competitive Monday night schedule? We shall see.

Prison Break is the first network show to premiere this year. It set a high standard for all other television show debuting this year.

Prison Break's pilot focuses on Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller). Michael is a structural engineer who is torn up about his brother's death penalty sentence. His brother, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), has been sentenced to death for killing the Vice President's brother. Michael doesn't believe that his brother could do that. Michael does some planning. He robs a bank and then pleads no contest to it in court. Michael is sentenced to five years in prison. After 5 years he will be eligible for parole. Michael is sent to Fox River, a maximum security prison. Michael's brother Lincoln is also at the same prison. Michael puts his plans into motion to get his brother out of jail.

Michael has it all planned out. He is a structural engineer and someone in his firm was a sub-contractor on the prison when it was being built. Michael has seen the prison blueprints. How can he remember them? Before Michael robbed the bank, he tattooed the blueprints of the prison onto his entire body. Michael's next plan is to get inmates of the prison onto his side and help him out. Will he be successful? We'll see as the series progresses.

The second episode, "Allen," focuses on Michael's plans to get inmates to help him execute his prison break. It's not successful. Michael wants former mob moss Abruzzi (Peter Stormare) to help him. Abruzzi is not very fond of Michael. Abruzzi has found out that Michael knows where the informant, who put Abruzzi in jail, is. Abruzzi wants to know where he is. Michael refuses. Abruzzi's thugs gang up on him and lay him in a shed. Abruzzi asks him one more time and Michael refuses again. Abruzzi takes shears and puts Michael's toes into the sheares and cuts. Michael's scream is all that is heard as the second episode ends.
