Theater review: Michael Jackson's court entrance, 3-10-2005

With his legendary career in the entertainment industry, Michael Jackson is supposed to be the master thespian, spinning his webs of seductive drama. However, Jon Lovitz could have done better than Jackson with this cheesily choreographed entrance into court this morning in his pajamas.

For one thing, even Jon Lovitz as the Master Thespian would not have been as hammy nor as hamhanded in his presentation. As to hammy, Jackson was less subtle in his affectation of pain than the Master Thespian. Lovitz couldn't have made much more show of suffering pain with every step across the steps to the courthouse. MJ looked like poor suffering Jesus, about to break under the strain of being forced to carry this cross.

Particularly, he made a really bad play with the 100 minute late entrance, made under threat of bail revocation and incarceration. Being fashionably late to make a big entrance generally rates a poor strategy in criminal courtrooms. Even if you feel you must make the late entrance, even Norma Desmond wouldn't keep the audience waiting for HOURS. This does not garner sympathy from the judge nor likely from jurors. Bad strategery to make the audience wait even nearly that long.

Still, he was mostly giving a pretty convincing walk across the steps, wincing so gently and subtly with each ginger step. I might be inclined to give him a least a grade of B for the acting performance.

However, he significantly blew the affect away with a dumb mistake. A few steps into his walk from the car to the courthouse, he responded to fans by pivoting and waving first to the left and then the right. See, that right there is the type of thing that an insurance company would pay a private investigator to secretly videotape to disprove a fake disability claim. C'mon, you couldn't be spinning around like that if you were suffering the crippling back pain you're trying to convince us of. I have to dock the whole performance a letter grade to C for this dumb performing mistake.

Thespian is too good of a word for mj.
Cheap imitator of other artists when singing. And did you notice that mj told the guy on his right to hold his right arm WHEN HE GOT IN FRONT OF THE CAMARA BY THE FIRST DOUBLE DOORS? Before that mj had jerked his arm away from the guy who believed mj was actually in pain. Fooled his own bodyguard!

Yea, the camera is the court's- MJ was lying to the judge by pretending to be in pain. MJ fooled Melville. Melville is the judge Jermaine Jackson said "should be killed". Because Melville is white, Jermaine Jackson had that covered when he said "All white people will be killed".

I spotted both moves as faux pas at the time -- like many people who wind up in court, Jacko seems to believe he can fool all the people, all the time. I guess he never read Lincoln's quote to the contrary.

I think that that Jackson is making the JUDGE look like a FOOL . Jackson looks like he`s calling the shots . Lets change that don`t let money run the court.

I think that now that MJ is found innocent everyone should lay off of the "nose" and "white" jokes. MJ should now also learn a lesson from this whole expierience, DON'T BRING LIL' BOYZ 2 YOUR HOUSE!!!!!! I'm am however very happy for MJ i knew he was innocent!! As far as his career goes, to me he'll ALWAYS BE THE [KING] OF POP!!!! NOBODY can EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER take that from him.

True enough, Jasmine, regarding his career achievements. The title of king has long since left him, but he recorded Thriller and Bad and Dangerous, and they truly can never take that from him.

However, re-iterating the obvious, MJ was NOT found innocent. I don't think even most of the jurors believed that.

Al the entire "not found innocent" is getting old.Evidently there was enough resonable doubt presented to have Jackson acquitted on all counts in the trial. The trial was about one case and in that case you might as well state he was found innocent. As far as "prior bad acts" and looking for a pattern that was the dumbest thing Sneddon did! The only pattern to be found was that Jackson did not fit the profile of a pedophile. Wasn't Katz one of the people Sneddon called that said just that? If I had any doubts about the other claims against Sneddon by less well known people.... I have no doubts now. He already is hoping for another case against Jackson LOL Poor guy could of retired with some respect now he looks like the old fool I precieve him to be. The only thing he could do to make matters worse it try to come up with another family to accuse Jackson, cost the tax payers more money, and look like a bigger idiot! Personally I think we all should leave Michael Jackson alone to live the rest of his life in peace. If he ever records anything new Great! If not he has given more to the world musically than a million others put togeher.
