The Waterboy DVD Review - Page 2

Audio fans will be disappointed by the lackluster 5.1 track included here. The rears are used sparingly, ruining the atmosphere of the big game. Big bass likewise accompanies big hits, but this is the highlight of the discs soundtrack. Otherwise, the clarity of the dialogue is preserved nicely and you won't miss a word, but this track is certainly the devil. (***)

Extras have hardly been added and almost not worth mentioning. A brief featurette (almost shorter than the trailer) is included in full frame. You'll learn little, if anything, about the making of the film. The video quality is also terrible with some oddball interlacing problems. The same issues affect the included trailer as well. The only other extra are some recommendations. (*)

The Waterboy is definitely not for everyone. In fact, I'm probably risking my future as a DVD critic by praising it. It's all worth it though. This is one of Sandler's best dumb comedies, just a notch below his classic "Happy Gilmore." Even if your not a fan of Sandler, you simply have to admit that Lawrence Taylor telling kids not to do crack just before his own conviction is one of the funniest moments in film history. This is a great purchase, but I wouldn't be surprised if a real special edition ends up on store shelves one of these days.

I won a radio station contest years ago for this movie and got a whole bunch of free stuff, including the movie and soundtrack. Though I haven't watched the movie again, that Soundtrack is outstanding. It has the Doors, Allman Brothers, Big Head Todd, CCR... just some really good stuff.

thanks as always Matt, I like this one a lot also, probably the fullest realization of Sandler humor without all the sappy crap. It makes very little sense but the characters are vivid and at least the extreme expression of rage makes sense for football, as opposed to, say, golf

Yes, it makes sense for football, but it surely works better in Happy Gilmore where it so out of place that it's gut-bustingly funny. Lets face it, non-golf fans only watch the sport and wait for someone to miss and easy putt and watch the clubs go flying. It's the most entertaining aspect of the sport. =;)
