The Trailer Park: Smokin' Aces

Part of: Trailer Park

I have to admit, this trailer definitely got my attention. It has that combination of bizarre characters, explosive action, and a frenetic pace akin to something from Tony Scott that makes it completely alluring. Smokin' Aces is loud, crazy, brash, and man it looks like fun.

This is the kind of movie that I could find myself really digging; perhaps it will be the Running Scared of 2007. They aren't exactly the same movie, but there does seem like there is a kinship between the two, delivering an over the top experience while the narrative hangs onto the rails by a thread. I can't wait.

Smokin' Aces is the story of Buddy "Aces" Israel, a Las Vegas magician who is becoming a witness for the state against the Mob. Boss Primo Sparazza catches wind of what has happened and has put a nice bounty on the head of Aces. The figure attracts all manner of killers and low-lifes. Before you know it, the FBI has to fend off a variety of hitmen, all intent on collecting the bounty. Sounds simple enough, but the vastly differing styles of said hitmen are sure to create an entire world of chaos.

There are no words to describe how enjoyable this looks. I doubt that it will comment on the state of society, or offer any type of great insight into the minds of the hive of villainy formed here. I don't think there will be any type of deep meaning to this, but I do think it will be an absolute blast.

The cast is a fine collection of recognizable faces. Take a look at this line-up: Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Andy Garcia, Ray Liotta, Ryan Reynolds, Jeremy Piven, Peter Berg, Taraji P. Hensen, and featuring the big screen debuts of Alicia Keys and Common. They are directed by Joe Carnahan, who also wrote the script. He was also behind the excellent cop drama, Narc.

Smokin' Aces is set to be released by Universal Pictures on January 26, 2007 and has been rated R (lock up the kids). Be sure to head over to the film's official site to see both the full trailer and the teaser to prepare yourself for the insanity.
