The Thin Man Films : The Thin Man - Page 2

Various elements combine to make this film, and the series, a timeless experience. While the solution is somewhat 'not allowed' in proper mystery writing, the seemingly accidental deductive reasoning of Nick makes the unraveling of the mystery a captivating experience.

    Hey Aaman,

Nick and Nora Charles as versions of Hammett and Hellman: surely the most light-hearted, cosmopolitan portrait of committed, life-long Stalinists in our pop culture. It's esp. weird with respect to Hellman, that self-promoting mediocrity whose self-seriousness bordered on the delusional. (I take Mary McCarthy's side in their infamous fight, on both political and aesthetic grounds.) Hammett was, I guess, a Stalinist with both a sense of humor and of style--though I think that William Powell and Myrna Loy add a lot to that perception.
