The Pacifier

The problem with The Pacifier is that the plotting is lazy. It's one of those films where plot points are produced and thrown away every five minutes.

For five minutes the boy's a Neo-Nazi, and then he's just in a musical. For five minutes they're upset about their father's death, and then the issue dies. The movie makes you feel like if you turn around, everything will disappear. The characters are one dimensional, and half of them are annoying.

The idea is that it's an action film/family comedy, so whenever it's necessary, the kids develop martial arts skills and defeat the bad guys, and then go back to being scared and helpless.

And none of the jokes are all that funny.

Why does Vin Diesel have to humiliate himself this way this early in his career? Schwarzenegger didn't do Kindergarten Cop until he was like, what, fifty? Perhaps it's the fact that every movie Diesel's been in recently has bombed.

Anyway, bad movie; and part of a bad trend of movies that are frenetically paced and emotionally empty.

Pitch Black was the peak, a very fine one of a overlong career. If he had made just that film, he'd be an icon.

I think that The Pacifier was a very funny and hilarious movie. Vin Diesel did a great job as a babysitter. He looked very cute when he was holding the baby and mostly when he was changing diapers.
