The Original 50 Cent—Kelvin Martin

Never having been the type to co-sign with the ghetto mythology depicted by mags such F.E.D.S. and Don/Diva, whispered by wannabe street hustlers and spit by rappers faking hustler, funkdigi quickly dismissed many of the vids popping up on video store shelves in the inner-city on so-called New York gangsters. Recently, an abundance of straight-to-video releases, detailing the life and times of some of these street hustlers, gangsters and stickup kids have been selling like the return of cooked crack, to our dismay. However, funkdigi has become intrigued with the story of Brooklyn's Kelvin Martin a.k.a "50 Cent", the man whom partly inspired rapper Curtis Jackson a.k.a. 50 Cent.

The documentary, hosted by writer/actor Bonz Malone, delves into the lore of the original 50 Cent. This stickup kid, turned drug pusher and gangster, is both compelling and informative. The story follows the rise and fall of 50 Cent, told by the friends, family and street associates who loved him and feared him all at once.

Infamous Times:The Original 50 Cent, though often shoddy in its craftsmanship, details untold stories, fables that served as a back drop to the burgeoning 80s New York rap scene, and the eventual crackdown on violent crimes, stamped out by Mayors David Dinkins, Rudolf Giuliani. The video features appearances by the rapper 50 Cent, Eric B, DJ Scratch.

50 Cent terrorized the streets of Fort Greene, Brooklyn and its surrounding areas. Often known to carry a Colt .45 and .357 Magnum, like a modern day Billy "The Kid", the "little man" put fear into the hearts of local residents during what was the height of the crack cocaine epidemic. It's rumored that 50 Cent murdered some 30 individuals. Eventually, 50 Cent's exploits caught up with him.

Rapper 50 Cent, who allegedly did his hustling on the street of Jamaica, Queens, is interviewed for the documentary and discusses why "the streets" were talking about his namesake and why he assumed the name of the Brooklyn gangster.

I have seen this documentary about the Original 50 Cents and it is very deep. Alot of what was being said and how 50 cent the artist got his name I had no knowledge of how deep this indiviual actual was. It spoke alot of truth and its just gully, but to the point of where his respect has to be acknowledged he really got down for his. Although I do not cadone, his way of lifestyle he meant and did what he said. And for that he earned his respect.

That's the nigga they need to be making a video DVD about. He was the most notorious killer on the east coast. Even that bamma ass snitch Alpo paid Wayne to kill niggas in NY for him. Wayne got bodies in NY, VA, B-more, and DC. And that nigga still alive champ. I've recently ssen the Real 50 cent dvd and I was so disappointed that the rapper 50 cent would choose the named of a person who was known as a ruthless killer. Not to mention he is proud of it like this guy was some outstanding individual, and this guy's daugther had the nerve to say that she want everyone to remember her dad. This guy made a living out of terrorizing people, without regard for his family or himself. For the people who posted ignorant comments,it is very sad that Kelvin Martin died so young. It is ashame that Black people take pride in how tough and violent a person is instead of a person morals. That dvd should be a wakeup call to my Black people who think that the criminal lifestyle is the way to be,if Kelvin had another chance,he would probably have made better decisions. He decided to leave the street life when it was too late.

The "Life" ain't nothing to brag about. The exploits of cats like Wayne Perry ain't nothing to brag about. These cats killed just to be killing, no more no less. The stories can be told just like any other crime story told on the History Channel, but glorifying street niggas for killing their own ain't nothing to brag about. Now had these cats parlayed this shit into some real power, politics and money like Joe Kennedy and built some real bricks and put a dude in the White House or backed a mayor or a governor or financed some real type Cartel shit, then I could see putting some shine on them...Niggas got all these bodies on 'em and don't own 1 piece of fucking property, don't leave shit for their seeds, don't have shit to show for it, die broke in the streets or in the joint...

Hardly anything to be bragging about.

The original 50 may have been a man after the world whith a magnum an 45 but he was still a family man he never brought his street life in his home even though he could kill a man and never think twice about it he still had a heart so this makes him a gangster an a gentelman but the niggga was about that paper and did what he thought was neccsary to survive the game even though he knew it would kill him in the end
