The Golden Globe Nominations: Thoughts

The Golden Globes nominations have been announced. While the actual value of winning a Golden Globe is best shown by giving nominations visibility for the Oscars. Here are some thoughts on some of this years nominations and omissions.

Congrats to Bill Murray, Sophia Coppola and Scarlett Johannson for "Lost in Translation.'" Well deserved. The Globes love "Cold Mountain" and "Angels in America."

So, so happy to see Evan Rachel Wood nominated for "Thirteen." The Musical or Comedy categories always seem to be a little off. This year, I would question the Billy Bob Thorton nomination for "Bad Santa."

Glad to see Ken Watanabe nominated for "The Last Samurai", but that Tom Cruise was passed over.

Missing from the film nominations. "In America" only got one nod, and Hope Davis is the only nominee from "American Splendor." The cast of "Lord of the Rings: The return of the King" was shut out. "

In TV land it was "Angels in America" and "Sex and the City" were big noms.

All of the "Sex and the City" actresses were nominated - finally Kristen Davis got one.

There were some surprising nominations. "Nip/Tuck" and "The Office" are up for Best Drama and Best Comedy respectively. While Amber Tamblyn is up for Best Actress Drama Series, and Ricky Gervais is up for Best Actor, Musical or Comedy Series. It's wonderful that "The Office" is nominated, but it's shocking due to the fact that it's shown here on BBC America.

The TV Snubs. I don't understand how Justin Kirk can be snubbed for "Angels in America." while all the other actors are nominated. "Friends" was shut out except for Matt LeBlanc. "Six Feet Under" only got two nods.

Who will win in all the categories, is typically a crap shoot. Let's wait and see.

I am delighted about Sophia Coppolla as well. I am even more ecstatic about Evan Rachel Wood. I knew she would grow up to be a great actress. I watched her simply blossom as an actress in the spectacular drama series that was Once and Again. It was a stellar cast and she certainly held her own. Its a shame the show was cancelled. One of the better TV shows in recent years.

I just saw THIRTEEN a couple of days ago and what a wonderful movie. I hate the end though, it ruined the movie for me. Still, Wood was fantastic as was the great Holly Hunter. Infact, everybody in the movie was great.

Rest of the noms I am excited about off the top of my head..my SATC gals all getting nominated..a thrill:) Very disappointed 6ft under got just two noms. Delighted my Will and Grace people got the nod as well. Glad Jennifer garner got the nod and Alias is a great show. Its too bad Lena Olin is no longer there, she made the show even more interesting last year. I think a few of the others in Alias deserve nods. Who else??..hmm..can't remember. Having said all this, I hate award shows:) Still, whether I hate them or not, they exist, so sometimes one is forced to get in the spirit of things. Was diane Lane nominated for Tuscan sun? I haven't seen it yet but I have been a Diane Lane fan since "Little Romance" and she's one of my top 5 actresses. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed. I hope Renee wins as well. I hope Nicky Kidman does not win. I think enough is enough. Lots of hopes. I am more disappointed about the Russell Crowe nomination than I am about Billy Bob. Oh..fingers crossed for Bernie Mac, without a doubt, the funniest man alive today:)

I'm glad "The Office" and Rick Gervais got some recognition. That show and he in particular are very funny. "Coupling" also has its moments.
