The Fighter, The King's Speech Lead Screen Actors' Guild Awards Nominees

Part of: Awards Season Watch

Considered the most accurate indicator of the imminent Oscar contenders, nominations for the (17th Annual) Screen Actors Guild Awards were released Thursday morning. Admirably maintaining their impressive awards season run, The King’s Speech and The Fighter, two of the best-reviewed films of the year, each earned four nods, including recognition in the Best Ensemble Cast category.

While True Grit has re-emerged nicely following its complete omission from the Golden Globes’ crop of nominees announced Wednesday, Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending thriller Inception has been shut out of the SAGs. Meanwhile, two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank (the true-to-life family drama Conviction) joins this year’s Best Actress race (finally!), and Winter’s Bone star John Hawkes slips back into the running for the supporting actor honors – at the expense, unfortunately, of The Social Network’s Andrew Garfield.

For the complete list, including the television nominations, visit sagwards.org. The awards will be handed out Sunday, January 30, live on TNT and TBS, at 8:00pm.
