The Deep End

The movies from NetFlix just keep on coming. The Deep End helped to keep me entertained today.

It wasn't as dark as I thought it would be. I'd misinterpreted how the lover died from the previews. Then after about twenty minutes of the movie I couldn't figure out where they'd go with it, but then Goran Visnjic showed up and the plot really got moving.

The acting in this movie was what really stood out. There wasn't a single wrong turn taken by any member of the cast, and that's saying something in a movie this dependent on dialogue. Tilda Swinton and whoever played the son were especially great.

Really, I think that anyone would enjoy this movie, whether you like talky dramas or tension filled thillers.

I loved this film too. I saw it in a small DC theatre the first weekend of its release.

There's a scene where the Spera character is alone in Margaret's house, waiting to discuss blackmail terms with her. He walks around her kitchen, looks at the pictures and drawings on the frij, hears the children elsewhere in the house, and at that moment seems to revert to his human form -- remembering perhaps a home and family from long ago, or even one he'd never had.

Plus Visnjic is drop-dead gorgeous ;-)
