The Butterfly Effect

This strange movie takes its title from an old saw derived from Chaos Theory.

That is, the fluttering of a butterfly's wings in Brazil can cause a hurricane in the northern hemisphere, as a result of sequential amplification of initially minuscule effects.

The movie, starring Ashton Kutcher and Amy Smart, got horrible reviews.

A friend of mine watched the movie and told me it was very thought-provoking, reminiscent in some ways of Ken Grimwood's magnificent, little-known novel, Replay.

That was all it took for me to get and watch the DVD, which I just did.

I liked it, though it was somewhat scary at first.

The film takes a very interesting approach to how small changes in events can result in completely different lives and outcomes.

In a way, there's an element of the movie Sliding Doors, which I also liked.

In fact, most films that play with time appeal to me.

Sixth Sense and Minority Report, as well as Total Recall, are others in the same genre I found immensely absorbing.

This movie is one of the worst pieces of crap I've ever seen made from an interesting idea.

It should have been called "Dude, I Just Turned My Girlfriend Into a Crack Whore!" And it includes the sequel, "That So I Got Raped In Prison Show" (actually that part was sorta karma kool).

"In a way, there's an element of the movie Sliding Doors, which I also liked."

"Sixth Sense and Minority Report, as well as Total Recall, are others in the same genre I found immensely absorbing."

I agree 100% with both sentences.

I don't care what anyone says, The Butterfly Effect is a film that will become a cult classic. The idea behind it is so simple and I will be using the book to illustrate the theories of Paradox and Chaos to great effect!

I also think that watchng the film for the first time was quite difficult because there was so much going on. So I am going to watch it again. This is a seriously COOL film!
