It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses. Hit it.
I'll be covering the 25th Anniversary of The Blues Brothers. I won't be in Hollywood, unfortunately, but the theater I'm going to will have a live feed from Mann's Chinese Theatres with commentary from John Landis prior to the event.
The Blues Brothers movie has a special place in my heart. Always will. I'll never forget the time my father was in the hospital following a heart attack. He was nervous about the nurse having to remove a femoral catheter and was rapidly approaching a panicked state. I was the only one there with him at the time as everyone else took a dinner break. The nurse walked into the room with her supplies and was about to extract the tubing. My dad began to shake. I suggested we turn on the TV, for distraction purposes. And there were Elwood and Jake. My dad focused on the movie, instantly calmed. By the time the femoral catheter was out, the pressure dressing applied, and the nurse was gone, my dad was laughing.
Our lesson for the day? Never underestimate the power of the blues and the Blues Brothers themselves.
If you haven't seen The Blues Brothers in a while, why not pick up the special 25th Anniversary edition on DVD?
After the movie, I'll be back with all the details.
