The Barbara Walters special is always an interesting event before the Oscars. Which celebs will Barbara reduce to tears? How smug will all the celebrities come off? Will the celebrities be impressed with themselves as Barbara throws up alley-oop after alley-oop in an attempt to make these people seem fascinating, normal and worthy of our adoration? Will we be able to make out that pre-historic grill that Barbara calls a face, through that hazy, white camera filter?
There's only one way to find out. Sit through the whole blasted event. I hope you enjoy my summaries.
Matt Leblanc - How did this goofball get on this show? Were the other Friends just too busy? What is the over/under for how many weeks the Joey spin-off lasts? How about the over/under until Matt Leblanc begs one of his more popular cast-mates from Friends to come in and save his show?
7:05 - I know you shouldn't confuse an actor with his character, but I can't imagine that Matt Leblanc is the sharpest knife in the drawer.
7:07 - So this is the portion when they over-hype friends as if it is the greatest show ever to be put on television. A very good show? Maybe. As good as Seinfeld? Not a chance.
7:08 - Matt Leblanc chomping on a ketchup-sprayed hotdog is something I didn't need to recall ever. By the way, they are paying this guy $1,000,000 per episode?
7:11 - Barbara makes her first bid to make someone cry bringing up Matt Leblanc's parents. Divorce. Father left mother. Strained relations between Matt and his father. You going to squirt? Huh? Gonna cry? Come on man. Do it. Damn.
7:12 - This just in, Lisa Kudrow started to cry first when the cast was getting together before their last show. That makes a lot of sense because Kudrow has about ZERO prospects for a career after friends. She will be forever typecast as Phoebe.
7:15 - The Friends formed a union of sorts for negotiating their Friends contracts. This is the fundamental problem with unions if you think about it. You can't tell me Joey and Phoebe deserved full wages. Would that show have suffered with other people as the "goofy" characters in that show?
