Part of the reason we didn't see the missed flight is probably that there were simply too many teams to show them all (I'd argue that showing one or two would suffice), and that the show already needed to be so packed with teams doing poorly on other areas that there was no time to spare. But, I wonder. I'm not sure that the teams that missed the connection out of Moscow were all on the same flight to Moscow, so each of their tales would have been unique and valuable. Additionally, any time we miss anything on camera, I wonder if there was some other – perhaps nefarious, perhaps not – reason. Was the camera turned off for some reason? Did the sound man fail to get sound? Would showing us the exact way that the missed connection occurred make someone (contestant or not) look wretchedly bad and did the producers want to avoid that? I can't answer those questions, the producers probably can, and even if the truth isn't salacious, it's something I'd like to know. I don't like hidden things.
Probably it's my desire to have everything be obvious that caused me to not mind so much the fact that The Race tried to make the end look closer than it was. Sure, it was a misdirection, but it was something of an obvious misdirection as the amount of light in the sky between the second to last team's arrival at the checkpoint and the last team getting there was quite different. That's one of those things the show does to try and make things more exciting, that I get. This other issue, the missed connection, that I want to know more about. Thoughts?

Thoughts are while I respect your opinion and enjoyment of TAR, there is plenty more to be ticked off about re: TAR than this:
1.) Bunching points. Too many bunching points, but this season it hasn't been too bad...it's possible that your complaint ties into this since if we had a bunching point in Siberia, teams WOULD have caught up and it would have been closer.
2.) THE PRIZE FOR WINNING A LEG SHOULD BE A RETURN TRIP ON VACATION TO THAT COUNTRY. Most countries the TAR teams race through without enjoying anything. Makes perfect sense that most of the leg prizes should be a return vacation trip TO THAT COUNTRY. Now I don't mind sometimes they have other prizes, but come on? if you win a leg in France, the prize shouldn't be a trip to Jamaica. It should be a trip to France. Only ONCE in the HISTORY of TAR has a prize involving travel been to the same country where the leg ended. A few seasons back a leg ended in Hong Kong and they finally gave a return vacation to Hong Kong. TAR uses and abuses many countries for the show. The least they could do is bring those people back on a vacation to promote tourism there.
3.) They purposely pick dumb un-worldly teams.
4.) Many challenges are too easy mentally. The toughest thing I've seen since season 1 was this past episode with "Chekhov." We need more stuff like that on TAR, like Season 1.

I forgot the big thing about THIS season:
This season they only go to THREE continents, AND THAT INCLUDES NORTH AMERICA!
The 3 are North America, Europe, and Asia. THAT'S IT. It's the lowest amount of continents ever not counting the Family Edition which was North America only.
That tells me that TAR isn't doing so well and they had to cut down on travel to save money. It also explains why TAR is not in HD, although, along with Survivor (which now is in its second HD season), SCREAMS for HD.
