Seems like Halle Berry is done playing superheroes who have limited speaking skills (BTW, this photo is one of the few I could find from Catwoman that I'd consider appropriate):

I just find it amusing that she'd be willing to play Catwoman again... I mean it was so much fun and empowering for her. It's irrelevant that Catwoman has only earned $31 million worldwide so far and it cost $100 million to make. Maybe they'll make another one just to keep her happy...
BTW, both X-Men movies were wildly successful despite her presence, not due to it.
I think it would be a bonus if they kept her off of X-Men 3. Then again, there's no guarantee it will be any good now that Bryan Singer has signed on to do Superman.

And I have absolutetly no doubt that you will think the reason I slam the idea for a Kojack remake is because Ving Rhames is set to play the lead. You'll of course skip everything I say concerning that fact that I don't like remakes because they change the original concept so much. I didn't like the Lost in Space remake either.

I just noticed a pattern of critical -- and utterly pointless -- attacks on people of color, particularly those who happen to be prominent. For example, the one above. The 'point' being made, that Berry will no longer do cartoon characters, is, as the author admits in the entry, not true. She is already talking about reprising the Catwoman role. So, why write an entry with a false claim as its basis? Nor is there any evidence that Berry is untalented or an unsavory person offered. The entry just seems to be an opportunity to bash her for being successful and not white. Since the person responsible for the entry (-edited- I believe people are responsible for what they say) has a pattern of such entries I decided to ask what is going on. Perhaps he believes such tendencies go unnoticed. They don't.

I haven't read any more than what's posted here about this topic, but perhaps it's the generalization that's the problem.
The only thing Halle says about doing another catwoman is when she says 'unless I were lucky enough', and from that we come up with a title 'That's right Halle, it's all about you'.
I don't see selfish, snooty bitch in the actual article at all, like the title implies. I see a woman who is ready to try different things, and a woman who would consider herself lucky to be able to play a role again. This article isn't a slam against Catwoman, it's a slam against Halle Berry. But what's odd is that the reasoning behind it doesn't correlate.

Halle Berry is beautiful--but she is anything but tough. In Gothika, Halle runs down a hallway and collides with two fat guys. Result: fat guys are knocked over like bowling pins, and Halle keeps on running. What the hell is up with that? She couldn't knock over my grandmother. Then again, Catwoman has super powers, so I guess it's okay in that movie.
Halle is working on Their Eyes Were Watching God (TV), in which she is playing the role of Janie, a woman who goes through four bad husbands in the book. Halle isn't far behind in real life. But Janie does somehow become empowered at the end of the book. Maybe Halle will benefit from the experience--and learn a lesson. Drop that zero and get yourself a hero (AKA Dirtgrain). By the way, how well will Their Eyes Were Watching God translate to film? It has a tricky structure (four husbands), and it doesn't have a Hollywood ending.

There is an interesting interview of Halle Berry in the current edition of Ebony, which I may blog if I find time. As Dirtgrain noted, she is doing Eyes and very excited about it. She is also happy to do Catwoman, partly because she admired another woman of color, Eartha Kitt, in the role as a child. (If you ever want to see some white people really freak out over an outspoken black woman expressing a political opinion, read up on what happened to Ms. Kitt after she openly opposed the Vietnam War.) I don't think Catwoman has been out long enough to declare it a failure, as the author of this entry did.
Berry says she is done with marriage in the Ebony interview. However, she is quite generous to soon-to-be-ex, Eric Benet. (The interview may have taken place before he requested alimony.)
So, looking back at this comment, I see I have referred to three very smart and talented women of color -- Eartha Kitt, Zora Neale Hurston and Halle Berry. Some people around here will not be pleased.

All this blather about an example of the most superficial humans in our society- my, my, my. That these people are idolized, spoken about, read about, listened to, fawned over, is too much for me. These "hollywoods" deserve about two seconds of attention, none of our regard or respect, and certainly not nearly the amount of money they are paid for what they do.
I agree with RJ. If someone is not genetically only "african american", how can he/she be black? Mac Diva and many others perpetuate the "one drop" prejudice. But, it's not just "whites" who are doing it. Right MD?

If Ms. Tek were around she would object strenuously to Halle Berry being called "black," since Berry's mother is rather starkly white. Whatever she is, she is an exceptionally beautiful woman and a fine actress who has only gotten better over time. I don't have the sense she is particularly difficult or haughty or anything else, although she seems to be in the Hollywood rut of serial marriage.

In retrospect I think my article may have been a bit harsh on Halle, but that has nothing to do with her being black, half-white or whatever. It's not necessarily her fault that Catwoman bombed, although I still think that outside of Monster's Ball her acting in such films as X-Men and the James Bond flick have been weak at best.
It was a slow movie news day and I wanted to post something to my ScreenRant.com site.
My point was that I thought her comment about loving to play the role again was akin to spending $45 to go to Disneyland again because it was fun the last time, instead of the reality of having the studio lose (yeah, I know, boo hoo) $70+ million for the opportunity.
Maybe I should have written something about Paris Hilton in The Simple Life 2 instead, except that I can't bring myself to watch that show, even to review it. :-)

Ms. Tek is not the only mixed-race person at Blogcritics. Nor is Halle Berry the only mixed-race person in the three women mentioned above. Technically, most African-Americans are mixed-race. But, that does not prevent us from being on the receiving end of racism. We know what race we are 'assigned to' in reality. Berry knows that she is 'black' and has said so many a time. She is the one out there dealing with pointless attacks such as the one above and being called the n-word by white folks. She doesn't need RJ Elliott or Eric Olsen to explain race to her anymore than I do. What's next? Strom Thurmond rising up from the grave and correcting Essie Mae Washington Williams about her 'race'?

I agree that in the past "any black" was considered "black," it was even law; but it is a sign of progress that a strong mixed-race identity has begun to develop. It was indeed an ironic, almost surreal moment when Berry won her Academy Award and enthused at length about the lineage of great black actresses, and the camera cut to her mother, who is about as white as my butt in a snowstorm.

My maternal grandfather was as white your butt in a snowstorm. Got my auburn hair from him. But, that has not saved my identifiably not all white self from discrimination. Mixed-race may be biologically accurate, but it is the constructed reality of race that determines how people are treated. If people can tell the person is not all white, that determines treatment. Halle Berry does not consider herself white because she has not been treated white. That is a good call in my opinion.

personally, i think Halle is hot in terms of looks, and pretty good in terms of acting. I haven't seen Catwoman yet, but remember that most actors/actresses that star in many films have at least a few flops under their belt too.
She was rather good in Swordfish, and not bad in Die Another Day...
unfortunately i don't think i've seen any other films she's in yet. Not that she's in as a major part anyway.
