So where's the problem? The media and the gossip and the awards ceremonies. Everything revolving around these two shows is what is responsible for a small fraction of viewers to start going "Augh!" whenever they hear these titles even get mentioned. And despite what some may say, the hype may eventually start affecting the shows themselves. For example: should we start to worry that Desperate Housewives is nominated for Emmy Awards in the comedy categories, despite the fact that the show intrigues more than it humors? Let's hope the writers don't decide to take this as advice and start trying to inject more comedic moments into the series and essentially run it into the ground. Lost's season finale alone was rather disappointing and anti-climactic, despite how much the media and the network built it up to be the biggest television event of the year.
Who really knows if the media will affect these great series and start to wear them down before their time is really up? What I do know is that I'm certainly keeping my fingers crossed that these two great series remain just as good as they've been so far for several more years. Only time can tell.

Lost rocks all. It is proof that broadcast television can compete with cable. Whether they will actually continue to do so remains to be seen.
While Lost survived, after all, others were still canceled prematurely.

This is true. I'm actually a fan of both Lost and Desperate Housewives...I just hope that all the media hype doesn't force people to get so burned out that they stop tuning in just when the show's getting good.
