Sweet and Lowdown

Sweet and Lowdown y'know I don't want to say nothing, but you take the music out of this movie, and the sove and de-boner charm of Mr. Sean Penn, well, you got a whole lot of nothing, sweetheart.

This is probably the best Woody Allen movie of the last decade, and the best parts come when you extract the most Woody Allen bits. An apparent bio-pic of a long lost Depression era jazz guitarist, played by Sean Penn, a guy who thinks a big night on the town is going to the dump to shoot rats and watch trains, this movie really moves when the music is front and centre.

Le Jazz Hot. This strain of jazz really incubated and grew in Europe, and especially with guitarist Django Reinhardt. It never really prospered in the States, and jazz in general was distained.

However, Penn is brilliant in this movie, and the soundtrack is amazing, even though the rest of cast seems to be motivated by "ohmighod, I'm in a woody allen movie".
