I have been a fan of Star Trek for as long as I can remember, and there has been a steady stream of new Trek since 1987, when The Next Generation premiered. While Enterprise wasn't always the cream of the crop, and had numerous misfires, it was still Trek, and I was there to watch it.
Anyway, Season 2 is about to hit store shelves and it is being promoted with a pair of viewing parties at StarTrek.com. They will be showing a pair of episodes, one each day at a couple of different times, see below for the details.
I actually think this is a pretty interesting idea. Drum up support for your show by showing some of it online. I kind of hope this sort of thing catches on. There will even be a chat during the episode.
Viewing Party Times for each day: 7pm GMT (noon PT) 6pm PT - 9pm ET
Dates/Episodes: Wed, Aug 3 - "A Night in Sickbay" Wed, Aug 17 - "Cogenitor"

I watched the first 6 episodes of Enterprise and lost interest... now that the DVDs are out, I should hope to try to pick it up.

Lately I've started watching Trek fan-made films, and finding them more interesting and entertaining than anything Paramount has done in years, even though it's clearly visible the fans are amateur filmmakers working with a budget that hovers around zero.

I caught a few of those, although I think fan fiction stories are better than the fan films.

Well, fan fiction is an older medium with more experienced creators, largely because digital cameras and editing software have only just recently come down far enough in price for hobbyists to gain access to them.
Nevertheless, fan films are rapidly improving, and the writing for some of them is getting equal to or better than anything you'll see from professional Hollywood or television screenwriters.
If you want to see how good fan films have gotten, check out Season 6 of Star Trek: Hidden Frontier, an ongoing fan production which is starting to build a fan base in its own right.

Haven't watched any of the fan films, but I am interested.
As for Enterprise, season 4 was the best, it was just a great season, and a shame that it was the last....
