This week’s ninety minute installment of So you think you can dance follows the process of cutting down the fifty dancers to a group of twenty-four that next week will be cut down to sixteen - eight females and eight males - and be the final group to go in front of America for their votes.
This week the dancers chosen go through a dance boot camp in Hollywood. Small groups of dancers work with one of the five choreographers picked to work with the dancers during this part of the competition.
The choreographers exhibit a variety of different dance styles and skills. The five choreographers selected are Dan Karaty, Mia Michaels, Brian Friedman, Alex De Silva, and Mary Murphy.
With these dance classes, each of the dancers work learn choreography. Their performances here will decide who stays and who goes. As they teach, each of the five choreographers is watching the dancers, and one is quickly sent home on the first day, allowing one of the dancers that didn’t make it to step up.
While the dancers learn choreography from each of the choreographer’s it is quickly known who can dance and who cannot. The choreographer’s aren’t easy on the dancers. They want to know who has the most talent to have what it takes to possibly win in this competition.
While the dancers are working hard everyday, they are also living together during this process, and we can see personalities clash quickly. Early on, some of the dancers find out that one of the ones competing is a successful dancer in his own right, having worked with Britney Spears and Janet Jackson in the past. Some are concerned about this, but other dancers see it as a way to prove they are that much better if they can succeed against such great competition.

I remember seeing commericals for this a few months ago and saying I wanted to watch it but somehow completely forgot...until I saw your post. It sounds really interesting and uh...addicting. :)
Hopefully I'll remember to catch it next week. Thanks for this review of the episode. It definitely makes me want to watch it.

You're welcome. I had been really unhappy with how the show began. I hope it stays like this week or gets better in the weeks to come.

I LOVED the first two weeks of this show. The audition process revealed some of the most astonishing dancers from the most varied backgrounds I have ever seen. The show featured street dancers, classically trained dancers and ethnic dancers (i.e. flamenco, latin, etc.) with immense talent. Even the feedback given by the judges was interesting, and from a dancers perspective, particularly valuable. I could have watched the auditions for the rest of the series and was dissapointed that the most recent show regressed into the behind the scenes "drama" that are part and parcel of reality shows. I would have loved to see the dancers actually do the choreography given to them. I wonder how much the viewers at large actually enjoy watching the dancing. There is nothing on TV anymore that shows really great, talented dance--'cept for music videos if you watch them. Perhaps this show will cultivated an interest and taste for dance that has been overlooked by mainstream media. I hope so--it's hard to find good dance especially in local theaters. For the most part you have to go to NY and Europe to get it.

this may be silly but I would like to know what song they were dancing to in the hip hop class.

I saw the show tonight for the first time (my husband hates reality, I love it.) I thought Craig was very cute, but his moves were very feminine. Even if he was a ballet dancer, whose moves are often feminine, it was kind of unattractive (not his looks, the moves themselves.) I'm glad that one judge said that Michele should go. I thought her moves were "desperate" as well.

I was extemely upset by the judges choice to add quick step!!That wasn't fair to put any contestants to perform that!!This week Destinee and Blake needed to be in the bottom 6!!!!Cut Michelle a break She's been in bottom 6 for two weeks now when Destinee sailed past judges with her sorry performance! Let Michelle dance with Blake and watch her shine!

Send Destinee home she couldn't even do a simple jump....Snow as well she spun me dizzy...Michelle is a class act...she's and amazingly strong dancer...and they just keep picking on her....Maybe she can do lyrical for a change or hip hop!
Chris ....Vote for Michelle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
