If you are hoping to watch "Karen Sisco" tonight, you're out of luck because the show has been put on "hiatus". ABC (Already Been Cancelled) has said the show will air in March in a new timeslot. The seven episodes aired so far have been very good. As performed by Carla Gugino, Karen Sisco is sexy, tough and while she always gets her fugatives, has more difficulty with the other men in her life. The plots and characters are true to Elmore Leonard's style.
"Karen Sisco" is the latest teevee programme based on an Elmore Leonard character. Karen Sisco is a US Marshal who first appeared in the novel "Out of Sight", which was made into a movie starring George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez. The television series stars Carla Gugino and features Robert Forster as her father, Marshall. In the movie, Karen's boyfriend is FBI agent Ray Nicolette, played by Michael Keaton.
Forster also starred in "Jackie Brown", based on the Elmore Leonard novel, "Rum Punch", while Michael Keaton played FBI agent (you guessed it) Ray Nicolette.
The television show is produced by Barry Sonnenfeld, who also brought "Get Shorty" to the big screen, and "Maximum Bob" to television. You might recall "Maximum Bob", a six episode summer series, based on the novel of the same name. While Leonard described Judge Bob Gibbs as looking like Harry Dean Stanton, in the series the role was taken by Beau Bridges.
Given the relatively low profile it seems Elmore Leonard has on screen, over 20 projects have been made into movies and teevee shows so far in his career.
So, until "Karen Sisco" returns in March, check out some of his other movies, or read the books.

Well, crap. This was the only decent new show on television. The second episode with Danny Devito was fantastic and Gugino was really beginning to fit into the Karen Sisco role. I didn't see how she could top Jennifer Lopez's Sisco from Out of Sight, but she was putting together that mixture of sexiness, steeliness and vulnerability that made the character so appealing in the film.
Stupid TV execs... I'm sure they'll replace it with the "American Millionaire Bachelor Idol" or some garbage like that.

Beats me why people have bought into the 'reality TV' crap, too, Jason. If there is someone who understands this phenonemom, I urge him or her to explain it to the rest of us.

I'm not sure who to blame -- the network executives, or the people who watch "Survivor Bachelors"
ABC, CBS, NBC can RIP
Well, with this news the only show from the old networks I watch is Monday Night Football. Thank goodness for HBO.
