School of Rock: any comments?

I had a chance to watch "School of Rock" last night. I just checked out the reviews on Amazon and I must admit I was scared to find an overwhelming 141 reviews showing an average of 4.5/5 stars.

I'd like a show of hands? Am I alone in thinking that the movie was not that good at all? I am thinking here that it's not worth more than 3 stars. Anyone else?

I thought school of rock was wonderful, mainly because it didnt feel the need to get all worthy on us half an hour in. Most flicks of this ilk, ie, Sister Act 2 -Whoopie Sings A Song, tend to be funny for the first quarter, and then get all preocuupied with "the messege", like as if it were ashamed of the jokes. OK, Maybe SA2 SHOULD be ashamed of its jokes, but you get the point. Plus, she isn't even a real nun.(SPOILER) You can check out my review of School Of Rock over at http://www.geocities.com/mondoirlando/school_of_rock Personally, i think Richard Linklater and Chuck From Chuck & Buck did a damn fine job. And John Belushi wasn't bad either.

Why does Joan Cusack always get stupid roles? I think she is an underrated actress who doesn't get the credit she deserves.

For its genre (previous poster correctly linked it to the Sister Act movies,), School of Rock is good. Beyond the genre, it's simply a "cute" film. It's basically a "Music of the Heart" (where Wes Craven truly showed his directing talent) + Jack Black comedy. Nothing new, but entertaining nonetheless.
