Can we please share a moment of silence for The O.C.?
Season four started off rocky. It was dark - too dark, if you ask me. Where, oh where, were the light, happy times of The O.C. of yesteryear? Sure, there were glimpses of it, particularly with the full-time addition of Taylor adding some snap to the mix. Still, even with snap, The O.C. started off this season too heavily for me.
I’ve been a fan since the beginning. The first season was great - back when the drama was lighter, the dialogue was funnier, and everyone was, for the most part, happier. Then came plot lines filled with alcoholism, lesbianism, rape, guns, shootings, and even (shudder) public school. Then Marissa got killed off the show, and, sad to say, things started to look up.
Enter season four, which was, unfortunately, the last season of this show. Last night was the farewell send-off. Not since TV’s Felicity have I seen so many storylines wrapped up so neatly in one hour. For The O.C. fans such as myself, there were many happy endings.
Seth and Summer stopped watching the fictional Briefcase or no Briefcase, and after following their own paths ended up together at the altar. Sandy and Kirsten moved back to their old haunt in Berkeley, Ryan (presumably) graduated and became an architect, and Julie got a college degree.
Sure, now that The O.C. is over, my DVRs won't have to work quite as hard on Thursday nights, but Marissa or no Marissa, I will definitely miss The O.C..
