Reviews In Brief: Not Evil Just Wrong

Part of: Reviews in Brief

Not Evil Just Wrong is a documentary film that claims to expose inconsistencies and inaccuracies in Al Gore's Oscar-winning documentary The Inconvenient Truth. The film attempts to show how the facts presented in Gore's film are demonstrably wrong. They show how the inaccuracies are still being repeated by Gore in the face of evidence to the contrary. The film also takes some time to review the original material released by the IPCC on which Gore based his film and book. The "hockey stick" climate chart and assertions that the last 20 years have been the hottest both come under close scrutiny.

Rather than just critique Gore's film and come across as shrill, the filmmakers go to great lengths to demonstrate how incorrect thinking about the environment could have actually resulted in the death of millions of poor all over the world. What might surprise viewers is that the national chairman of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), Roy Innis, appears as a staunch opponent of Al Gore's Draconian measures for the American economy (especially its possible impact on the poor). It's fascinating to see him make the case against Al Gore's film from a civil rights standpoint.

Al Gore was asked to respond to the various points made in the film but refused. There were several people who held similar views to Gore's, and at least one who thought he did not go far enough, interviewed for the film to state their case. It gives us something to think about. The film may not make comfortable viewing, but it certainly challenges certain beliefs that have become mainstream in many circles including the media and academia.
