Growing up, this was one of my favorites. My friends and I used to play Emergency! all the time, sliding down poles at school and pretending the tree house was the fire station. When I saw that it was finally going to be available on DVD, I was thrilled.
The two-disc set includes the original pilot movie for the series, "The Wedsworth-Townsend Act," which I don't remember ever seeing on TV. I loved the chance to see exactly how Squad 51 came to be, and how Gage and DeSoto met. The training at Rampart was also fascinating, and I learned some things about the doctors and nurses there that I missed when I first watched. It was also fun to see the "guest stars" that graced the Emergency! set.
This is a great DVD set for nostalgia buffs, and fans of the original series. Collectors of TV history will certainly want this one as well. The only drawback I saw was the total lack of any "bonus features" (unless I've missed an easter egg or two...). Interviews with any survivng cast members, interviews with long-time fans of the series, etc. would have made this truely a collector's item.
