Ryan runs into a lady reporter who is well known for her ambush techniques. It's her job, after all. Ryan mutters something to the effect of "These guys were cowards". Lo and behold, it winds up on the news. Ryan is ticked, and later destroys her camera and claims he never wants to see her again. In way, it's hard to blame him. This has happened before with this reporter.
Calleigh and a technician skilled in chemical composition analysis track the bad guys to an abandoned limestone plant. Only one guy is arrested, and he tells Caine that there is a price on Caine's head.
In another angle, Caine and Frank find a maid who has been carjacked by the bad guys. She is pregnant. Erik finds the employer's family in a "panic room." It troubles Horatio that the maid, Cecelia, was not in there, too. He informs her boss that he will be paying her medical bills. This poor woman was raped, but the boss got her pregnant.
Eva Larue, of soap opera fame, has joined the cast as a hotshot DNA expert who got a grant to work at CSI. One hitch - she can only work on unsolved or "cold" cases. Valera, the tech who got suspended last season due to mangling test results, has returned. So has Rick, Ray's former partner. Rick does not know Ray is actually alive trying to hide from the Feds who got him in over his head.
The last time viewers saw Ray, he had flown to Cuba with Yelena and Ray Jr. They have not yet returned, but not because any of the three were cut from the cast.
Caine ends the show by going to the same church and lighting a candle before kneeling to pray. Another man enters the church, sees Caine and leaves.

They certainly started off the season with a "bang!"
I like the addition of Eva LaRue.
I want follow up with Ray, Horatio's brother. I want to know what happens there.

Look, it's "CAINE" not "Crane". And the guy who sees Horatio at the church at the end of the show is not the guy who got his maid pregnant, but rather the Internal Affairs investigator who opened a file on Horatio last season and hopes to find a way to bring him down.
Let's get our facts straight.

From what I've seen, Ray is not essential to storylines. He can be talked about and not seen. But-crossover with CSI NY planned where Caine and Taylor switch places.
