CSI: Miami stars off the new season with a shocker and a bang. From the promos, one might expect the twist to be at the end. But Miami had to be different.
The opening scene is that of a church. Flash to the next one, and you see Lt. Horatio Caine, played by David Caruso, seated in a confessional talking to a priest. Caine wants to discuss an old sin. The priest points out that when Caine took someone's life, it was long ago. Caine asks how long he has to keep trying to atone for it. The priest replies, "You'll know."
Cut to a funeral outside. A car drives up, and the driver apologizes for the traffic kerfluffle. Only after the passenger exits do we see that a young male convict has been brought to the service by a cop. When the officer refuses to remove the handcuffs, the boy knocks him to the ground and approaches the casket. Alberto wants to pay his respects to the memory of his mother.
Surprise, surprise! The casket pops open, and a man with a bandanna over his face starts firing an automatic weapon. Caine hears the ‘pop pop pop’ of the bullets, of course. Cops know the sound well. He tells the priest he has to go, and races to the scene. By this point, the villains have gotten away in a hearse. Caine shoots the gas tank, but the resulting leak is not enough to stop the getaway car.
Bring in the techs! Calleigh is back, presumably having retained her resolve despite having witnessed her cop and former flame shoot himself in the head in last season's finale. Erik and Ryan round out the group. Caine explains this massacre was the work of the New Mafia, and will understand if anyone wants to bow out. Nobody does.

They certainly started off the season with a "bang!"
I like the addition of Eva LaRue.
I want follow up with Ray, Horatio's brother. I want to know what happens there.

Look, it's "CAINE" not "Crane". And the guy who sees Horatio at the church at the end of the show is not the guy who got his maid pregnant, but rather the Internal Affairs investigator who opened a file on Horatio last season and hopes to find a way to bring him down.
Let's get our facts straight.

From what I've seen, Ray is not essential to storylines. He can be talked about and not seen. But-crossover with CSI NY planned where Caine and Taylor switch places.
