Part of: New DVDs

I've got this ordered but it still hasn't arrived. What it is, is a career-spanning Rockumentary concerning one of the finest bands ever to have worn leather and sang about Sheena and her Punk Rocking tendencies.

Sword Of Doom - Criterion Edition

Kihachi Okamoto's uber-violent Samurai classic gets the restoration it deserves, courtesy of those Criterion folks. Sadly, there ain't any extras, far as I can tell, aside from an essay by Critic-type Geoffrey O'Brien. Still, a digitally-spruced-up Sword Of Doom is something for to celebrate.

The Red Trousers - 2-disc Set

In this day and age of CGI and the like, it's easy to forget about the poor old stunt-men and stunt-women. Stunt-folks, if you like. In Hong Kong action cinema, old-fashioned human beings are still required for to jump out of buildings and fall down stairs and so on. Robin Shou's documentary goes out of its way for to illustrate the plight of these folks, folks who are treated like props for the most part, and who receive very little in the way of TLC.

This 2-disc set has commentaries and deleted scenes and the like, plus a 28-page booklet.

Well, here's the full run-down for March 15th 2005

Chris, Sword Of Doom is well worth checking out. And yeah, Criterion do a brilliant job. shame they couldn't grab more extras on occasion. Mind you, extras or no, their release of Kwaidan is immaculate. Dig those colors, would you ever?
