Being skint as a budgies knackers right the hell now, this list causes me no small amount of pain, let The Duke announce. For sure, I had enough money in the pocket for to pick up The Complete Dennis Pennis and Morrissey - Who Put The M In Manchester, but the result of these purchases is that I have to eat tea-bags dipped in jam for the next fortnight. Ah well.
For you Region 1 types, there's plenty to be getting on with, like these here for instance, what I list for your convenience by way of The Duke's Picks;
Sideways
This is one of three releases in The Duke's Picks this week that I already have here in Mondo Towers, so that's always something. Forty less quid to gather from the back of a brothel someplace. Sideways is one of two I still haven't watched, though. Perhaps I will tonight. Who the fuck could even guess?
What it is, is the critically acclaimed tale of two middle aged lads heading out on a road-trip through California. Low-key, I'm guessing. "Subtle" even.
The disc has a commentary and a couple deleted scenes and stuff.
The Corporation
This is the second one I haven't watched yet, but I did see ten minutes or thereabouts, and can deduce from such that the first ten minutes are brilliant.
What it is, is a documentary examining the psychopathic tendencies of big business, reaching the conclusion that if The Corporation were indeed a human being, it'd be fit only for the mental house.
This 2-disc set is totally stuffed to the teeth with commentaries and reams and reams of deleted scenes and the like.
The Amityville Horror / Amityville II - The Possession
Just in time for the cinematic release of the remake, here's a Special Edition of the first flick, and a shamefully extras-free version of the masterful, superior sequel. One of the best horror sequels ever fucking made, in fact.
I'll be picking up the first flick, since it's got commentaries and all sorts of Discovery Channel documentaries concerning the "true story", i.e., brilliantly marketed pish. For The Possession, however, I'll stick with the PAL Region 0 special edition I already have, in its gorgeous black case with commentary from Kim Newman, author of Nightmare Movies and genuine swell old bastard, and Stephen Jones.
STOP THE DAMN PRESS - I just learned there's also a box set affair with the first three Amityville flicks (including the hilariously cack 3D offering starring Meg Ryan) plus a bonus disc - Amityville Confidential.
Leaves From Satan's Book
Carl Theodor Dreyer's silent docu-drama from 1921 is a sort of Haxan like affair, concerning the history of the horny-headed git's soul-destroying mischief. A Motherfucking Must Own, is what The Duke announces, and why not pick up Dreyer's beautiful The Passion Of Joan Of Arc if you can find it, too.
