There is also a two-part featurette called "Trendsetters" which is on "lifestyles and fashion." I have no idea if anyone from the film is even mentioned in it.
Wow.
Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior
See this movie! Well, if you're into kung-fu at all. If not, it'll probably bore you. The plot is admittedly paper thin. But the action is outstanding. Tony Jaa is going to be the next big thing in martial arts - or at least he deserves to be. His Thai fighting style is superior to yours. He will destroy you and your Western style. Seriously, it's pretty impressive. (I'm going to digress now into some pretty in-depth fight analysis. Feel free to skip to the next entry.) See, it's rare to actually see a new fighting style in what's becoming an increasingly saturated chop-sockey market. But there is a distinct rhythm and focus to Jaa's work. It's a lot of elbows and knees and literally jumping on some guy's shoulders and pounding the shit out of the top of his head with your elbow! Most action sequences I look at might be cool, but these I actually worry about the actors. I mean that looks dangerous! He's also really good and jumping around, under, and through things, but Jackie can do that, too. And it does get kind of annoying when the director shows you the same cut over and over again Max Headroom style. We get it. He slid under the cart. It was cool the first time. No, seriously, I'm going to hurt you.
Extras include the 8 movements of Muay Thai. I don't know what that means, but I'm sure as hell gonna click on it!
Also, there's a performance by Jaa at a French screening, which I can only hope involves him beating the crap out of a bunch of reporters or something. Now that's a premiere!
House, MD: Season One
I haven't actually watced the first season of House, but here's what people tell me.
"Oh, yeah. You should see it. It's real good."
"Why haven't you watched it yet? You suck!"
"If you don't watch House, MD, the terrorists have won. Is that what you want?"
"See all these puppies? They'll die if you don't watch it right now! Don't walk away from me!"
And yet, somehow, I haven't seen it. (I have the same problem with Deadwood, by the way.) I keep meaning to TiVo it, but I've got a lot of entertainment debt and I just added Rescue Me and Entourage to my load. But that's the beauty of DVD. In particular, that's the beauty of shows that were just on last season coming out on DVD so you can get caught up for the upcoming season. Clever, huh? I doubt my Netflix queue will allow this show to get to me before then, but hey, I can always just Netflix the second season.

Great job on this as always, David! The original version of Sahara was about 100 times better, of course. And the "real" Sahara, starring Bogart, is just about my favorite WWII-era film. I hate that they stole the name with this new schlocky looking thing.

No love for Nip/Tuck - Season 2?

I'll be honest. I've been afraid to watch "Nip/Tuck." I'm sure it's an excellent show, but scalpels near faces (or other parts) make me skittish. However, this is another good example of well-timed, catch-up-before-the-new-season-starts release strategy. "Lost" will be pulling the same move next week, I believe.

The people are right about the puppies and terrorists and House. It's a great show for Hugh Laurie's performance and the character of House alone, but it's also got incredibly sarcastic and witty dialogue, interesting stories, great supporting characters, and puppies.
Well, there might not be puppies, but everything else is true.
