Okay there comes a time when watching people hook up and just hook up gets just a bit on the boring side. Each of the last five episodes of this season of Real World: Austin has showed the cast members hooking up in one form or another. In past episodes, the hooking up was at least balanced with something else. Danny’s surgery, Rachel’s issues with being a veteran, or Melinda breaking up with her boyfriend back at home immediately come to mind.
This episode doesn't have any thing else to balance the hooking up with. There is no sign of the castmates even working this week. Each and every week we see the cast partying at one bar. This week is no exception to that. The episode consists of two main focuses this week: Wes and Nehimia’s competition to see who can hook up with the most girls, and Rachel’s attempt to go after a man she met the first week in Austin.
Let’s talk about Wes and Nehimia first. Boys will be boys, and it seems these two have decided to see who has more game. They do this a couple of ways. Both by inviting girls over to the house in order to generate the hook up, which is terribly unsuccessful.
The next challenge seems to involve Johanna picking girls for Wes to try to hook up with at the local bar. This also appears unsuccessful, but that isn’t all too clear. What is clear, neither Wes or Nehimia have very much game as one of the female cast mates points out.
Now let’s talk some about Rachel. In past episodes, she has expressed an interest in Wes, but that seems to have faded. She now has her attentions focused on a man named Collin that she met at the bar. After expressing her feelings to him, the two set up a date for sushi, and they go out. The night seems to go well, and they both end up together back at the house in Rachel’s bed.

It's still fun frat-sorority Real World theater, as far as I'm concerned. But you bring up a great point in that the indie film stuff is way back on the backburner as far as the editors are concerned.
I recall seeing Wes and Johanna hookup on one of those This Season On... promo pieces, so we have that to look forward to. The Johanna commanding Wes around thing is clearly her attempt to get closer to Wes.
The preview for next week looks very interesting in that the Danny/Melinda honeymoon may finally be coming to and end.

I really hope danny comes back. He and Melinda are so cute together. I thought it was really sweet when she started crying after she read the e-mail. I'm not going to watch the show if he doesn't return. I think he should return, not just because he's my favorite character, but because it's putting Melinda through just as much.

I dont know why danny is bitchin and cryin. He said he didnt even like his mom cuz she was a drunk and a crackhead. How else did she have a heart attack! Inside info from his home town: Danny returns in the August 23 episode only to find that Mel has all but forgotten about their fling. Apparently, she had given up on him coming back and went on a drinking binge and the show portrays her as a slut. Meanwhile, the producers of the show finally persuade Danny to return, and he does so reluctantly, only going because of Mel. My understanding is that he returns unexpectedly while she is out with friends and does not see her for a day or so. When she returns, she is only back to go to work, but is drunk and sloppy, and essentially ignores Danny and opts for the bed. Apologizing later, Danny cannot bring himself to love her because she has been with others in his absence. They opt to remain friends, and she becomes depressed but finishes the show in grand fashion....watch in Mid October!

i hate danny i love wes he is so awesome and i hope johanna and him hook up. i hate mel she is such a slut. rachel has some major issues. nemiah seems like he would be cool to hang out with. lacey is very understanding and down to earth. johanna is cool and she should hook up with wes.
