Prince is taking over five networks for a 30 minute concert special on Wednesday:
- MTV, MTV2, BET, VH1 and VH1 Classic will simultaneously broadcast a 30-minute Prince concert special on Wednesday at 9 p.m. EDT
....The concert, recorded live last week before an audience at New York's Webster Hall, includes performances of material from Prince's new album, "Musicology," plus some of his classics. The telecast also includes interviews, with certain segments reserved for the individual stations.
"The networks have never done this before," said Will Botwin, president of Prince's record label, Columbia.
"We wanted to do something unprecedented," said Judy McGrath, MTV Networks group president.
McGrath, who was at the taping, said the show was "like a party" with a few hundred audience members at the small club. Prince wanted an intimate feel to the show, she said.
Although Prince has been out of the spotlight for a few years, Botwin said he wasn't concerned that the teen audience won't want to watch him. Kids have learned about Prince through their brothers and sisters, he said. [AP]
One can't help but note that in essence Sony has replaced Michael Jackson with Prince. Good move.
The show sounds great, although 30 minutes is awfully short - well worth checking out. I still haven't heard most of Musicology.

Can someone email me with info on whether or not Prince will release a live show from his Musicology tour on DVD. Since he aired the Staples Center show on March 29th, it would make perfect sence to release that on DVD to be sold in stores. Each one of his tours captures a new & interesting dynamic & a real fan of music could never get enough of a Prince show. There seems to be no better talent or performer out there. I desperately need a copy of that Staples Center show on DVD. Anybody know something I don't & if so, how can I get a hold of a copy?
