Wow, I completely forgot to write up my pick of the week! All of the regular holiday stress has gotten me a little, ummm, backed up, that's it!
Anyway, this weeks pick takes two very different genres and slams them together head on, to create a unique take on the two genre's which can be rather stale when taken individually. The result is the wonderfully imaginative, funny, and gory romantic/comedy-zombie film. The name of the movie is Shaun of the Dead, and it is not to be missed. I first heard about this early this year, and figured it wouldn't get a very big release, if it got one at all. I pinned my hopes on the eventual home video release, when much to my surprise it came to theaters. I immediately went to see it and loved every minute of it!
If you are a fan of either genre, this is a must own. It defies explanation. Just see it!
Other releases to check out:
- King Arthur. This was an OK medieval film, although it fell a bit on the sanitized for your protection side, or rather marketing opportunity. Available in 2 flavors, theatrical and unrated director's cut.
- Manchurian Candidate. This was a pretty good remake with Denzel, not quite as good as the original, but it does put an interesting modern spin on it.
- Napoleon Dynamite. I'm stull not sure what the point of this movie really was, but despite that it is still a funny, bizarre little film.
- Two Brothers. This was a great family movie. A tale of tigers, starring Guy Pearce. Definitely one to see with the kids. Or by yourself for that matter.
- Danny Deckchair. I've been wanting to see this story of guy who uses balloons to fly in a deck chair. Looks fun.
- The Simpsons: Season 5. These releases are spread way too far apart.
- The 4400: Season 1. A fun mini-series from USA which got picked up for another season. An interesting epic scope tale of alien abductees.
Until next time! I'll try not to be late.

Shaun of the dead rules beyond reason. Shame the Region 1 disc isn't as packed as the region 2 one though.

It's not that bad though, I remember it being originally announced as a barebones release. I'm happy with it.
