Philly Film Fest Day Eight: Hey, It's Those Guys!

Another short day, this time because I'm leaving for Houston veeerrrryyyyy early tomorrow morning. Saw Little Athens, which I missed at Toronto. I was curious because DJ Qualls is the man (see his speech about the blues and hip-hop in Hustle & Flow) but it turns out the film is chock-full of HITG! moments. Jorge Garcia (Hurley from Lost), Eric Szmanda (Greg on CSI), Shawn Hatosy (lead in Outside Providence), Michelle Horn (Kevin Pollack's daughter in Hostage), Erica Leerhsen (not Jessica Biel in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Michael Pena (the best actor in Crash), and Kid Rock's sister, Jill Ritchie.

All of this doesn't change the fact that the film adds up to a lot of interweaving plot lines that, while entertaining (in a sucks-to-be-them kind of way), leave a sort of "it's just a bunch of stuff that happened" aftertaste. Think Can't Hardly Wait meets The River's Edge, but less compelling.

I'll be gone for a few days, but when I return: I promised you mutated cow fetuses, and I'm going to deliver mutated cow fetuses!
