Particles of Truth

My favorite indie film of recent fests opens in theaters September 17, 2004 at the Village East 12th St. and 2nd Ave, NYC. Particles of Truth is Jennifer Elster's first film, and she's an amazing triple threat. Directing, writing and starring in a film would be enough for most people. Elster takes it a step farther by kicking ass in all three roles. The film follows a loose web of characters through a 48 hour period that proves pivotal for each of them in various ways. The collage centers on Lili Black (Elster) and a germ-phobic writer played so well by Gale Harold ( of Showtime Network's Queer As Folk ) that you wonder if he's acting at all.

The characters are well drawn and believable to the point of being eerily familiar - I feel like I know these people, for good or ill. I even care about a couple of them. I don't want to give anything away here, so for a more in depth analysis full of spoilers and screen caps you can follow this link. If you happen to be in the NYC area on September 17th, make a special point of seeing the film. Rumor has it that some of the cast an crew will be in attendance.
