Oscars 2003: The Winners

Thanks to the Garthman I don't even have to leave my page to see the results.

Chris Cooper won for Supporting Actor, and I couldn't be happier. I've loved this actor ever since Lone Star.

Zeta-Jones is a fine winner for Supporting Actress, although I thought Meryl Streep was a better choice.

I haven't seen Spirited Away, but I was pretty unimpressed with the other nominees. Lilo and Stitch was good, but it was no Toy Story. And certainly it was no Bambi or Dumbo.

Bowling for Columbine was an obvious and awful choice. Does this man ever shave? I'm pretty unkempt most of the time, but even I find it in myself to get clean cut for dress-for-success-Thursday. He can't even attempt it for the friggin' Oscars, when he was a lock to win. What a schlub. He gives all the other schlubs in the world a bad name.

I'm surprised that Adrien Brody won Best Actor. Of course, I didn't see his movie, and I can't remember who the hell else was a nominee, but this does prove that the Holocaust still has a lot of power in Hollywood. That's not a bad thing, mind you. Oh hey, look at that, Garth ran through all the nominees, and I didn't see one of their movies, so I'll shut up now.

Nicole Kidman - not at all surprising. You're famous, you're gorgeous, you make yourself ugly for a movie part. Result: You win an Oscar.

Chicago wins best picture. Not a surpise, I thought they were easily a three to one favorite going in. Hollywood is ready for the musical again, and they couldn't give this to Moulin Rouge, it was just too wierd and poppy. Chicago, though, was a real musical. Like Garth, I thought The Hours was a better movie. Hell, The Two Towers was a better movie. If that series is going to win anything, ever, it will be next year for The Return of the King.
