I don't usually tend to go with the short post, but I felt the need to comment on this decidedly unimportant facet of the Oscar broadcast.
Is ABC showing favoritism? Are they secretly giving away the winner? Or is it just some sort of gaffe. Oh, you don't know what I'm talking about?
Every time they show any clips, only one film gets shown in it's proper ratio. The rest get the Pan and Scan treatment. The fact that a show that is centered on the celebration of film to treat it's subject so shabbily is a travesty.
Anyway, back to the point of this post. The only film that is getting shown with widescreen clips is Million Dollar Baby. Why is that? I have no idea.
It has always bugged me when shows do things like this. It just made me wonder if there was any underlying reasoning for it? Hmmmmm..... Makes one wonder....

Chris - One of the (many) reasons I tend to stay away from Event Television is that it's over-produced to the point of dimensia. I wouldn't at all be surprised if the Oscars people were telegraphing the [blank] out of the night's big winner.

Interesting thought that they might be dropping hints. But I wonder if perhaps it's just a matter of how the studios provided clips? Perhaps Warner Bros. sent out MDB clips in widescreen while the others sent them in full screen?

I agree, but the Oscars always draw me in, the others I tend to avoid.
I have been proven wrong though, as I have seen a few more WS clips....

In HD, it's all widescreen.

:) By definition HD is widescreen, I believe it is 1.78:1 if I remember correctly.
