Orlando Jones Guest Stars on the Next Episode of House, M.D.

Part of: Welcome to the End of the Thought Process: House M.D.

On Monday night, the House gang will meet a new character. Stage and screen actor Orlando Jones (House of D, The Time Machine) guest stars as Marcus Foreman, Eric’s (Omar Epps) gangbanger brother. Just out of prison on parole, House (Hugh Laurie) kindly gives him a job at the hospital. But perhaps kindly is too strong a word for it. Dr. Curious-About-Everything-And-Everybody likely has a different agenda than kindness in hiring Marcus — like getting more scoop on Foreman’s past.

Meeting briefly with television reporters by phone, Jones explains that the interactions between the brothers Foreman and House “unfolds through the episode so I won’t spoil anything for you, but it definitely gets a little dicey.” Although Jones is cast for only one episode this season, the door is definitely open for the future. Right now he’s filming a movie in New Orleans, “but, hopefully, I’ll rejoin them next season, and we’ll see what happens from there.”

Often when House is at his most manipulative (and it’s a good guess that House will be firing on all burners with Foreman’s brother on hand), the show tips a little lighter than usual. However, Jones noted that there will be a “lot of drama” in the episode. The episode is “certainly not comedic,” said Jones, noting that Marcus has a lot of meaty scenes with House. “I might spend more time with Hugh [Laurie] than my brother, or it’s evenly split.

Of course there’s likely to be a lot of tension between the two brothers. As Jones explained, “anytime you have a family member getting out of prison, it’s always drama.” Jones is a House fan, noting that he likes the show for “a lot of reasons,” but for this episode he had to learn a lot more about the “personal relationships between the characters on the show” to prepare for his role than the “nitty-gritty medical.”

Of course we'll get to see how it all plays out on Monday. But barring all sorts of contextual info that I don't yet have, it seems to me that House may once again be flying in the face of the admirable Talmudic tenet: "that which is hateful to you, don't do to another." How very unusual for him!

I think back to the end of S1, when Cuddy decided to hire Stacy back to PPTH. She would not be working in House's department, she was an ex-lover who had split from House five years earlier, yet Cuddy first asked House whether he "was OK with it" before hiring her. And House didn't exactly jump for joy at the moment, and proceeded to spend much of the next several episodes trying to get Cuddy to get rid of her.

Hiring Marcus to work within his own department? Well, there must be some reason that the episode is entitled "Moving the Chains" as opposed to "Jerking the Chains". I guess I'll find out what that is on Monday :)

I'm sure you will understand why all I want to do ask about 5-9 in very minute detail just as I'll understand why you can't comment, in which case, I'll refrain from asking! :) I'm SO jealous that you have actually seen the episode! :)

I am confused by the term "Gangbanger" because in the UK that term means a group of people raping one or more people. Or is/was he a Gang Member?

    I can't wait for the conference :D
Please, can you ask Lisa : " Wat do you think about the " Luddy " arc ? Do you like it ? More than Huddy ? "
    Thanks a lot !

Question for Lisa: Since Hugh is directing an episode, do you think there will ever by a cast collaboration on an episode in the future; where all of you write and direct an episode all together.

I thought that would be an interesting question, since Lisa has a background in writing etc.

2nd question: How does she feel about being involved in a spin-off, or another tv show after HOUSE finishes. I can't bare the thought of no Lisa on tv in two years time.

    Thanks

    1. Since Elizabeth has mentioned the much talked about idea of a House spin off, i have one thing that's bothering me: I am under the unpleasant impression that the "House" creative team has made the compromise of pairing Lisa Cuddy with Lucas Douglas (a very poor match for the her, I know you agree, Barbara), in order to further test the idea of the Lucas based spin off. I don't know if that could be true (perhaps the idea of the Lucas spin off was given up on, ever since the few episodes he was in, in season 5, in which case I apologize). What do you think?

    2. Aaaaaaw. Barbara, you have seen "5 to 9"?... And you can say nothing about it? Not even answer this burning question: as a passionate Huddy fan, should I watch "5 to 9" after I have drunk a bottle of Martini to make it easier to watch, OR with a bottle of champagne in my hand?

PS: also note that i live in Eastern Europe and i wake up at 4 a.m. every Tuesday morning to watch the new episode of "House", so perhaps you'll have mercy on my tormented soul:)

Barbara, thanks for the chance to send in questions. Please ask Lisa E something about her and not just Huddy (even though I'm a mad Huddyshipper). If you could, ask her if she'd like to direct an episode and is there any areas of Cuddy's life/career she'd like to see writers explore? Thanks, Barbara!
