We were not consulted:
- The Online Film Critics Society (OFCS), the international association of the leading Internet-based cinema journalists, is sharing its love with the character we're supposed to hate.
The OFCS has announced its new list celebrating the Top 100 Villains of All Time and the greatest screen villain of all time, according to the 132 members of the OFCS, is Darth Vader played by David Prowse and voiced by James Earl Jones in the original "Star Wars" trilogy.
Following Darth Vader in the Top 10 sector of the Villains list is Anthony Hopkins' Hannibal Lecter in "The Silence of the Lambs," Anthony Perkins' Norman Bates in "Psycho," Alan Rickman's Hans Gruber in "Die Hard," Dennis Hopper's Frank Booth in "Blue Velvet," Robert Mitchum's Rev. Harry Powell in "The Night of the Hunter," Douglas Rain as the voice of the HAL 9000 in "2001: A Space Odyssey," Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch of the West in "The Wizard of Oz," Max Schreck as Graf Orlock in "Nosferatu," and Ricardo Montalban as Khan Noonien Singh in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan."

I nominate Alan Rickman, but not for any particular role. Just for being Alan Rickman.

Hard to argue against those top 3. I'd be inclined to put Ralph Fiennes' Amon Goeth from Schindler's List up higher in the rankings (I still can't believe he lost the Best Supporting Actor to Tommy Lee Jones that year).
3 - Russell Fischer
Yawn. Not as insipid as the AFI's notorious list, but equally pointless. Given the necessity to pick, I would put Harry Lime and Frank Quinlan (both lower on the list) in that top ten. Given that this is (of course) a list organized around Hollywood, the fact that Michael Corleone is nowhere to be found is particularly amusing. Unforgiven's Little Bill Dagget at the bottom? Same for Kinski in Aguirre? pff.
4 - Pontifex
Hannibal Lector (more on this in my Red Dragon review that's upcoming) isn't, technically speaking, a villain at all.
So many of these choices aren't villains, in fact. Tyler Durden? Puhleese. Travis Bickle? He was, oh, I don't know, just the HERO in that movie. Gunnery Sgt. Hartman? I take that as a professional insult.
Dr. Evil makes it anywhere on this list how?
Just as well we were left out, I think.

Pity that Roger Smith didn't make it higher on the list, but at least he's there. A rather unusual choice, perhaps, but I put him as #1.
