Once Upon The Time In The West - DVD
Is it possible that the movie was made to accompany Ennio Morricone's score? Since the rest of the movie appears like it was dubbed from another language, it is possible.
One thing I learned (besides this probably being the only villain role Henry Fonda played) was that if you try to kill with the harmonica, the harmonica will come back and kill you pallie.
Obviously the companion to "The Grapes Of Wrath".

Yeah, the film WAS absolutely dubbed Jim.
It was originally done in Eye-talian and
then later dubbed to French and English.
Great F'in' flick.

Along with Gladiator, one of the few great soundtracks I will listen to on long road trips. Beautiful music. Morricone's music for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and The Mission is also very good.
Opening scene in Once Upon a Time in the West must rank as one of the most unusual, eccentric and bizarre in history.....a true work of art.....

And logical. What do you do before the film starts? You wait until the film starts! Waiting, waiting...

If you listen to the commentary on the DVD, the intent of the opening scene is to play off High Noon which had the most punctual bad guys in the West.
In contrast, the tough hombre, St. Bronson is more than three hours late. So, what do you do, but wait. And I'm sure in the days of transportation by horse and rail, everybody did a lot of waiting. As a bonus, it includes some of the best character actors of American Westerns.

I prefer the imported version of this soundtrack. The bonus tracks are excellent (especially Harmonica, Frank, and Morton).
