Last weekend saw strong numbers across the board, led by the surprisingly strong opening of the Friday the 13th remake. Will this weekend continue the trend of strong box office results that early 2009 has been filled with? Or will this be the weekend when we start to see normal numbers? I have to say it is going to be hard to predict, as the new releases are slim and the weekend closes out with Hollywood's "biggest" night. Personally, I would love to see this trend of big box continue. So, anything strike your fancy?
Fired Up. (2009, 93 minutes, PG-13, comedy, trailer) I cannot say that this movie was of any interest to me. That is until I read Harry Knowles' enthusiasm for it over at Ain't It Cool News. Now, this his is not always the most reliable of opinions, but he still has the ability to get someone excited over the oddest things. I am not exactly excited, but my interest is certainly piqued regarding this cheerleader teen sex-romp. I am still not expecting much, but must admit that bits of the trailer are rather funny. It is the story of a pair of high school football jocks who choose cheerleader camp over football camp to take advantage of the male to female ratio. The duo is played by Nicholas D'Agosto and Eric Christian Olsen (who has been funny in other projects), they are joined by the very funny John Michael Higgins as one ofthe coaches. TV producer/writer Will Gluck makes his directorial debut working from a screenplay by first timer Freedom Jones.
Tyler Perry's Madea Goes to Jail. (2009, 103 minutes, PG-13, comedy, trailer) Tyler Perry returns with another feature centering on his Madea creation. I hate to say it, but the title makes it sound like an Ernest Goes to... spin off. I have nothing against Perry, but his films just do not interest me. They look dull and uninspired. They certainly do have their audiences, and I am happy for them, just don't count me among te audience. This one has Madea sent off to prison following a highway chase and her anger management issues, then the fun begins. Tyler Perry stars as multiple characters in a film he also write, directed, and produced. He will next be seen in JJ Abrams' upcoming Star Trek reboot.
