New Movie Releases: 8/26/05

Part of: New Movies

It's that time again, time to take a look at the films opening up in my area. Hopefully, something worth watching.

The Brothers Grimm. Director Terry Gilliam returns after a 7 year absence with this fantasy tale, his last film was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Matt Damon and Heath Ledger play the brothers who travel the countryside spinning bogus tales, until they uncover a genuine curse to deal with. Apparently word is mixed on this, I have avoided reading anything, hoping to go in clean.

The Cave. This looks like the kind of movie I expect to see at the end of the summer, a rather generic looking thriller involving a no name cast. Maybe I'll be surprised, but I'm not holding my breath. It is especially disheartening to see that they seem to give away the twist in one of the television commercials.

Undiscovered. Never heard of this one until I saw it listed as opening this week. Apparently it is about a group of aspiring entertainers trying to make it in LA.

Grizzly Man. Werner Herzog has taken the footage shot by Timothy Treadwell and crafted a documentary film where he examines the life and death of the man who lived with the bears. This looks like it could be interesting.

Also opening this week, but not near me:

  • The Baxter
  • Dirty Deeds
  • Eternal
  • Matando Cabos
  • The Memory of a Killer
  • Shoujyo: The Adolescent

I haven't much hope for 'The Cave',

If it is anything like its british version 'The Descent' have you seen it?

    RE: COMMENT 1, CLAIRE

I too have seen only 'The Descent', didn't like it much. However the previews for the cave are very appealing.
Think i'll go watch it, you should too.
