This week brings a mix of the good, the bad, and the ugly. At least that's the way I see it.
The 40 Year Old Virgin. This has a lot of good word swirling around. Apparently what appears like a one joke movie is actually a little bit deeper and sweeter than one would expect. I am looking forward to seeing Steve Carell take on the big screen. Perhaps Judd Apatow, creator of two unfairly canceled television series (Freaks & Geeks, Undeclared) will finally have a bit of success.
Red Eye. Can Wes Craven outdo is last failure, Cursed? I hope so. The trailers don't look to bad, and I like the recent work of both Rachel McAdams (The Wedding Crashers) and Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins). Still not quite sure what Murphy is supposed to be, I just hope the movie is at least entertaining. Sadly, I'm not holding my breath.
Valiant. Haven't heard much about this, but the trailer makes it look like fun. It will probably be more for the kids, but we shall see. It is about a group of carrier pigeons who aren't quite ready for the big time.
Supercross. This one was just sort of dumped into theaters with little promotion. It looks completely generic. I just doesn't look like anything special. I think I'll pass.
The Great Raid. This opened last week to decent reviews and bad box office. It is widening it's release and coming to my area. It is a story of an attempted rescue of POW's in Japan at the end of World War II.
Broken Flowers. Jim Jarmusch and Bill Murray team up for this comic/drama. It looks like a potential perfect match. Jarmusch's minimalism and Bill Murray's later career dead pan style look to go hand in hand as Murray's character visits past loves in search of his son. I will definitely be seeing this one.

this is one of those movies that you can watch more than once, and laugh just as much if not more than the first time. just the name is enough to start you off laughing.
i think i'll go watch it (i haven't yet).
