Not much opening nationally this week. Who honestly wants to go toe to toe with the final Star Wars film? Whatever it is would just get trounced and quickly forgotten.
Star Wars: Episode III - The Revenge of the Sith. Opening on 3,661 screens, this is all but guaranteed big dividends at the box office. Probably the most anticipated film of the year has arrived. Early word has been good, saying that is vastly superior to the previous 2 prequels. I have done a good job of avoiding spoilers, so I cannot comment much on what the film is about. All I want is lightsabers. I like the title symmetry with the final film of the original trilogy. Anyways, by the time this is posted I will have seen the film. I thought it better to prepare this prior to screening it. I hope I liked it.
Following Sean. A one screening run premiering the new film from director Ralph Arlyck. It is a followup documentary to 1969's Sean. Picking up Sean, son of stoner parents, who is now a grown man with a family of his own.
3-Iron. A Korean film about a motorcycle riding outlaw, who uses takeout menus to decide which houses to sneak into, but he isn't a thief. Until he liberates a woman imprisoned by an abusive husband. I have seen the trailer for this and frankly, it looks fascinating.
Another Side of Peace. The second film of the weekend getting only one screening. A documentary about a Palestinian man who started the Parents Circle, a group dedicated to helping families cope with loss in the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. He lost a son 9 years ago to a suicide bombing, and a second son who committed suicide after a friend was killed in a bombing. Rather than be consumed by hatred, he has chosen the better route.
Edvard Munch. Three showings over three days. This is a restored version of the 1974 film about the painter of The Scream.
