New Movie Releases: 4/8/05

Part of: New Movies

A rather dull weekend for film. But then any week that follows the release of a film like Sin City is going to pale in comparison. I could go on about how great it was, I've already seen it twice, but I don't want to bore you. Instead let's take a look at what we do have.

Fever Pitch. This movie is not going to play well in New York, no matter how good it may review, there are many New Yorkers who will not see a film which centers on the Boston Red Sox. I have heard that is a decent film and it shows that Jimmy Fallon can step up and make a decent movie. I also know that they were scrambling to change the ending with the events of the fall of 2004. I think it looks like it could be fun.

Sahara. Didn't we see this already? This looks as if it could have been called National Treasure II. It looks just like it. A combination of action/adventure and the buddy film. I like the people involved, but I am not holding my breath for a good movie, potentially fun, but not good. Let us also not forget, there is a rumor that Clive Cussler is suing for breach of contract as he was supposed tohave final say on the script and he never got it. There is also accusations of nepotism, it was directed by Breck Eisner, recognize that name? Yep, he is the son of the head of Disney.

Melinda and Melinda. Woody Allen's latest film seems to be getting very middling reviews. It looks as if it could be interesting. It is about two writers telling the same story from two very different perspectives. One is happy and one is not.

Machuca. A film set in Chile just prior to the coup d’etat that killed socialist Salvador Allende and placed CIA-backed Pinochet in control. I read the description of this, and it's tale of two children from opposite sides of the tracks who become fiends despite the objections, but I was still underwhelmed, I think this would bore me.

That's it for this week. Enjoy your week at the cinema!

i love drew barrymore... and baseball... and don't have the red sox... so I may see Fever Pitch at some point... but probably will wait for the rental.

otherwise, the rest of that looks passable. i read "Sahara" back when I was around 13 or so, so can't really remember much. might see the movie if bored and have nothing else to do.

I agree with your comments about Fever Pitch and New York. This movie will not make anything in New York, even if you had Drew Barrymore nude, circa 1994.
