New Movie Releases: 3/4/05

Part of: New Movies

We have a few films that are targeting a few different demographics. Some of them are big national openers, some are just finally coming to my area. Whatever the case may be, there look to be some good movies coming out this weekend.

Be Cool. A sequel to Get Shorty, this looks like it could be funny, but appears to be in a more goofy vein than the first. It has a good list of stars including John Travolta, Vince Vaughan, Uma Thurman, and Cedric the Entertainer. On top of that we have the next test for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's acting ability. There is no doubt he has charisma to spare, and he is a good action star, but this is a bit different, I hope he makes it.

The Jacket. Adrien Brody and Keira Knightly pair up in this eerie looking thriller. I am not sure what the title has to do with the movie, but the trailers are intriguing. It looks to move through time and essentially confuse the viewer. I'm looking forward to it.

The Pacifier. Vin Diesel becomes the next musclehead action star to flex his range and try his hand at family comedy. This is a potentially big test for Vin, this could be a step toward proving if he has the ability to adapt to other genres, and haw far his acting ability can really go. It doesn't look like anything special, but may be a fun diversion.

Beyond the Sea. The Bobby Darin biopic comes to my area. I have been interested in checking this out for awhile now. I have heard mixed notices about it, but that doesn't mean I won't like it. Plus, Kevin Spacey does all his own singing.

The Sea Inside. This win the Oscar for Best Foreign Language film last weekend, and now I can get the chance to see it. It stars Javier Bardem as Ramon Sampedro who waged a 30 year battle to end his own life. I don't necessarily agree with being able to do that, but I am interested in seeing a quality film, sounds like another Oscar winning film who uses this as a twist that got people up in arms, doesn't it? People have to realize that a story can be well executed and entertaining that doesn't always fall in complete line with one's beliefs, they must not get to too many films!

nice one Chris. Be Cool and The Jacket are top of The Duke's to-see list. The Jacket probably nudges the other the hell out the way to be honest.

I'm hoping to make a night of seeing The Sea Inside and Head On, they are playing the arthouse which is about an hour away, so I should make the most of the trip. Just depends on getting out of work ontime!

I was looking forward to Be Cool... but the reviews have been mostly bad. I'll probably wait for DVD rental.

The Jacket looked interesting... we'll see.

Just remind yourself that this is "acting" in a "story" and that it is "not real" then you will be fine. A good and entertaining film does not have to agree with your personal beliefs. I started that a long time ago and have been fine ever since! :)

Yeah, I think it works for him. Will have to wait and see how the look changes in Dom, which just finished filming, I think that is due in August.
