As an unabashed follower of Joss Whedon, I'm always perked and pleased to see members of his 'verse spreading out through the televised cosmos. Nathan Fillion, better known as Capt. Mal Reynolds of Firefly and Serenity fame, is due to show up for a one-episode stint on Lost ("I Do," November 8).
This should prove to be a must-see show for any number of reasons: Kate (Evangeline Lilly) will make some kind of a choice between Jack (Matthew Fox) and Sawyer (Josh Holloway), and there will be a cliffhanger ending that will not be resolved until Lost returns from an extended hiatus next February. In the interim, a new show called Day Break will fill the timeslot, which looks to be a replica of Groundhog Day, except no Bill Murray or comedy, but with lots of shooting and car crashes.
The wife and I were just discussing the other day how Kate and Sawyer seem to make more sense as a couple than Kate and Jack. I mused that perhaps Jack will end up with his new female captor, who turns out to be a doctor. Wife grimaced with distaste.
The worlds of JJ Abrams, Lost's creator, and Joss Whedon have crossed in the past. Gina Torres has made the rounds on Angel (as a really beautiful, really creepy goddess of sorts), Firefly, and Alias.

I have often wondered if JJ and Joss would work well together. I doubt it -- plus having them separate means a potential for two excellent projects at any one time!

It's a great loss for TV that Whedon is just doing films these days. It's great, though, that Abrahms is picking up the slack with Lost, which is really turning into one of the best shows of the last 10-20 years.
I became obsessed with Felicity recently, Abrahms first show (I believe -- he was the co-creator). I'll have to write about it at some point, but it's a great, talky, introspective show. I love that Lost is an action and plot-driven show *but* has a real focus on character and character development at the same time.

One episode just isn't enough. They should make him into a recurring role. Don't care who he plays, but he definitly is worth having on for longer. Cuz boy can he play sick and twisted... think Caleb in Buffy.

Yeah, it's really creepy/trippy to watch a bunch of Firefly and then turn around and see Fillion on Buffy Season Seven !
