Money drives a campaign as well, too. Booker had to struggle and lean on people to get enough to stay in the race. Reports show that he almost matched James’s campaign dollar for dollar, but James claimed that Booker raised $10 million, three times what Booker actually managed to do. James kept making remarks that $10 million would buy any election.
James’s dirty politics were astounding. Much of the time I couldn’t believe what I was watching. If I’d been reading a popular novel, I wouldn’t have batted an eye. But I was keenly aware through Curry’s excellent narrative and camera, that this story was firmly lodged in the real world.
Street Fight is an excellent story. Despite the fact that this a factual account of a true mayoral race, viewers will get drawn into the underdog’s struggle. This documentary packs as much emotion and dirt into it as a top-flight Hollywood movie. I enjoyed the story a lot, though I was definitely upset to find out that all the vice and corruption that has been prevalent in the crime stories is still out there.
Pick this one up to get a better view of the world of politics. Take heart in the fact that there are good men like Cory Booker still out there, fighting the good fight.
