Movie Review: Saw V - Page 4

Melton: Marcus, don’t get ahead of yourself; let’s stick to Saw. Speaking of which, I was thinking: maybe we should get back to using the torture instrument that the series is named after. Ah, never mind, that wouldn’t be bloody enough.

Dunstan: Yeah, we need intense, unique death devices like guillotines, bombs, electrocutions... hey, maybe a buzz saw would work. Patrick, what the hell are you doing?

Melton: Tying a string to one of these steel bars. We tied up the loose end of Agent Strahm, didn’t we?

Dunstan: Oh yeah. I get it. We’re ‘tying up the loose ends.’ I’ll do the same.

Melton: Okay. Back to business. What about Jill Tuck (Betsy Russel)?

Dunstan: Nice. I forgot about her. Let’s have the deceased John leave her a mysterious box like in his will or something. We don’t have to reveal what’s in it, or use her character that much. In fact, let’s keep her mysterious and maybe we could eventually make her the one who leaves the I Know What You Did Last Summer note for Jigsaw. Why don’t we save Jill and her box for Saw VI? Let’s give her a hint of villain and leave it at that.

Melton: Cool. Another string tied.

Dunstan: Ditto.

Melton: Lastly, we just need to include one more big game. You know, involving multiple people who need to work together to stay alive and discover their common bond. We’ll have them clash socially, throw in a Darwin’s ‘survival of the fittest’ quote in there somewhere, and watch them die one by one.

Dunstan: Okay let’s throw Brit (Julie Benz), Luba (Meagan Good), Charles (Carlo Rota), Mallick (Greg Bryk), and Ashley (Laura Gordon) into a series of increasingly difficult torture rooms. We will show their progress intermittently between the rest of the screenplay and then tie everything together towards the end.

Melton: Speaking of which... isn’t that the last loose end to tie to the steel bars?

Dunstan: You’re right. Hackl, how did we do?

Hackl: We have a few more minutes of footage left. Is there anything you want to add?

Melton: Well, I think our work will please fans. At the very least, Saw V will earn the title of weekend box office champion. I think we did enough to get by, considering our pressured timeframe. I mean, we included intense creative killings and worked with what was left on our plate. That’s all that was asked of us, right?
