Blinding the audience due to the pure awesomeness and attractiveness of this film, Kung Fu Panda is the latest animated gem from DreamWorks. It is no accident that this film is the best animated film of 2008 so far. The film contains an all-star cast of voices along with a well-written script to build on.
Po (Jack Black) – a big, fumbling panda – is the biggest enthusiast of kung fu in the Valley of Peace. While working every day in his father's noodle stand, Po dreams of becoming a true kung fu master. Po's dream comes true when he is unexpectedly chosen by Master Oogway (Randall Duk Kim) to be the long awaited Dragon Warrior. Po studies the art of kung fu under the mastery of Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) alongside his heroes, the legendary Furious Five: Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Crane (David Cross), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Viper (Lucy Liu), and Monkey (Jackie Chan). The revengeful and villainous snow leopard, Tai Lung (Ian McShane) – a former student under Shifu – has escaped from a maximum security prison and is headed back to the Valley of Peace to claim the role as the Dragon Warrior. Po is given the duty to defend the citizens of the Valley of Peace from Tai Lung and claim his right as the true Dragon Warrior.
Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman provide the best voices for the film. Black offers his comedy, and Hoffman offers his wisdom and charisma to create a perfect one-two punch.
Kung Fu Panda is the most original and successful computer-animated DreamWorks movie since the first and second Shrek films. Along with the plethora of stars to voice the characters, the film is blessed with a simple yet effective story that provides enough to keep the audience engaged but not an excessive amount to bring boredom. The film relies on its originality, not on pop culture references.
