Movie Preview: The Lake House

The Lake House is the first time Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves will reunite on screen since 1994’s blockbuster Speed. This romantic drama is based on the screenplay The Lake House by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer David Auburn.

The Lake House asks the question, “How do you hold on to someone you’ve never met?”

In the winter of 2006, Dr. Kate Foster (Sandra Bullock) leaves a suburban Illinois lake house to pursue a career in a Chicago hospital. Reluctant to leave the place where she felt her true self, she leaves a letter for the next tenants asking them to forward her mail and explaining a painted paw print was there before she moved in.

2006_the_lake_house_016 When Alex Wyler (Keanu Reeves) moves in, he sees a completely different house. The lake house has had no signs of someone living there and is pretty badly neglected and there are no paw prints to be found. But his father built the house, so it holds a special meaning for him. Disregarding the note, Alex begins to restore the home until he notices a few strange things.

That is when Alex writes back to Kate and their correspondence begins. They soon discover they are living exactly two years apart. Do they fall in love? Do they ever meet? I don’t know, but you can find out in the theaters June 16, 2006. Or is that 2004?

2006_the_lake_house_006Have you ever wanted to communicate with someone in the future? Have you wanted to tell your future self something important that you fear you will forget? Thanks to the promotion forces behind The Lake House, you can. They have created a new website, Tell it to the Future, where you can write an email to send to anyone on any day. Send a reminder as to why you broke up with your lover so you don’t get back together. Remind a friend of some goals they set. You could even send an apology for something you know you will do. It is okay if you aren’t sure what to write, there is a section of public emails you can read through to find some motivation.

Good review... Can't wait to see the movie, but it's not based on a novel by Auburn, though Auburn did write the screenplay. It was based on a Korean film "Il Mare." I've been trying to locate a novel for the film, but haven't been able to find it for this reason. Just an FYI.

just watched the movie last night and totally loved it. I loved so many songs played in the movie (not scores, but with lyrics) but they are not on the soundtrack. Please help!
Three songs I am especailly interested in is at the semi-beginning movie, theres a song sang by a woman with low raspy voice
Second song - while they were back in 2004 at Kate's b-day party, kate dancing with alex. The song goes something like "this is how lovers should be"
Third song is almost the end, a male singer. Thanks!
